Multilayer
technologies

One of the most important aspects in the use of stents and urethral catheters is the high prevalence of bacteria that, in some cases, may lead to the appearance of clinical symptoms and complications, including severe sepsis and death.

To try to prevent this problem, at ROVI we are developing a new multilayer technology for urethral catheters.

How does it work?

Multilayer technology applied to urethral catheters is based on the fact that certain polymers and copolymers have qualities that make them bioerodible depending on their environmental conditions.

The objective is to prolong the useful life of these devices by decreasing bacterial colonization and, consequently, the incidence of urinary infections associated to sounding and the complications derived from them.

What are its benefits?

  • Decrease in bacterial adhesion
  • Reduction in the appearance of encrustations
  • Prevention, to a large extent, of catheter blockage

We research looking to the future

The development of this line of research provides us with the possibility of increasing both our patent and commercial product portfolios in the medical device field in a way that is both innovative and competitive, since the technology is intended as a platform for future developments.
