Institutional visit of the President of the Government of Spain

The facilities of Pharmaceutical Laboratories ROVI, SA (ROVI) in Granada this morning hosted the institutional visit of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez; the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias; the Health Councillor of the Junta de Andalucía, Jesús Aguirre; the Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández; the president of the Granada Provincial Council, José Entrena, and the mayor of Granada, Luis Salvador, among other authorities.

During their visit to the facilities, they have been accompanied by the CEO of ROVI, Juan López-Belmonte; the vice president and CFO, Javier López-Belmonte; the director of Industrial Production, Miguel Ángel Ortega; and the corporate director of R&D, Ibon Gutierro.

Laboratorios ROVI is executing an industrial investment in its facilities in Granada with the aim of manufacturing, as of the third quarter of 2021, the active principle of Moderna’s vaccine against Covid-19, to supply markets outside the United States. Specifically, this investment involves the installation of a new line to support the production phases of the active ingredient in the mRNA vaccine, which will have a production capacity of more than 100 million doses per year.

This phase of production is prior and additional to the work of formulation, filling and finishing of the vaccine, which the company itself has been developing since the end of 2020 from its facilities in Madrid, by virtue of the agreement that Moderna and ROVI announced last year.

During his intervention in front of the workers and the management team of ROVI, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has recognized the value of the company’s trajectory and highlighted its contribution against Covid-19, as a manufacturer of the vaccine for Modern on a large scale.

“As President of the Government, I am proud to be able to visit the ROVI Laboratories facilities in Granada. A family business, with a great tradition in the pharmaceutical industry, which is led by young people and has a high percentage of women on its staff. Many thanks to all the workers and the entire management team because it is a pride to be able to visit companies like ROVI committed to Spain and its territories”, highlighted the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during his speech, after finishing the visit.

In turn, the CEO of ROVI, Juan López-Belmonte, thanked the Government of Spain and the rest of the regional and local authorities for their visit to the facilities, as well as their support and interest in the work that the company is developing.

“At Laboratorios ROVI we are very satisfied to be able to support Moderna in the manufacture of its vaccine against Covid-19, to supply markets outside the United States. As a pharmaceutical company, we are proud to be able to contribute to the solution of the pandemic, through our experience and manufacturing capacity. In addition, I want to thank the Government of Spain and the Spanish Agency of Medicines all the support and closeness that they have shown us throughout this process”.
