Water footprint is an indicator that quantifies the potential environmental impacts related to water caused by a product, a process or an organisation.
In 2025, the ROVI Group carried out the analysis and verification of its water footprint in accordance with ISO 14046, with the aim of improving its understanding of its impact, reducing associated consumption, obtaining a more accurate calculation at corporate level and strengthening its commitment to sustainable development.
This measurement, verified at Group level, covers the operations of all companies and includes the activities of manufacturing, marketing, and research and development of pharmaceutical products, providing a comprehensive view of water impact across the entire value chain.
The analysis considers both water consumption and potential environmental impacts on freshwater and marine ecosystems, including eutrophication — caused by excess nutrients that reduce the oxygen available in water — and ecotoxicity, associated with the effects of chemical pollutants on aquatic organisms.
In addition to enabling the identification of opportunities to optimise processes, reduce water consumption and minimise pollution of water resources, this analysis also facilitates the assessment of costs associated with its management.
Furthermore, the study complements analyses carried out in previous years on the operational resilience of plants, particularly in relation to drought risk in water-stressed areas, where ROVI has production sites such as those located in Granada and Escúzar, which are exposed to this type of climate risk.
